If I remember the book correctly, he isn't saying that "how" questions should never be asked, just that they are often asked too early and with no regard to the "who."

Glad you found the book helpful. If you go to <a href="http://mattcleaver.com/2010/07/27/get-a-free-copy-of-relationships-unfiltered-by-andrew-root/" rel="nofollow">this post</a>, you can get a pretty huge discount on ordering that book.

I just finished the book tonight in a single sitting. I will certainly have to go back over the parts I underlined, but I like what he has to say. I have not read his other book(s), but after reading this one I'm going to get my hands on Revisiting Relational Youth Ministry!

I found some of the "How" vs. "Who" lines in this book overplayed. I appreciated what he was saying, I just think that "How" (when kept in proper perspective) can play a necessary role in scheduling, budgeting, and all the other components of maintaining a youth ministry in a church context.

His thoughts on relationships being devoid of ulterior motive, however, I believe to be spot-on!

I think I came across this book on your site a couple of weeks ago, so I appreciate the heads-up.
